Mommy-hood blessing (Proverbs 31:28)

Scripture of the Day: Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her. This week my little man has been up in Wisconsin with grandparents. Although my house is clean (or at least more organized!) and I am caught up on lots of things...I miss that kiddo of mine! My house has been void of the sound of a child for five days now and how I miss that voice! He talks all day. He sings to the songs he knows. He laughs a laugh that cannot help but make me smile. He compliments me more than any person ever has - I think I have a words of affirmation speaker on my hands!  Don't get me wrong, he also drives me crazy sometimes! But because thankfully, it is the tough times we forget and the good times we remember, it is the cute things I am thinking about! So on this day, whether your children are young or old, near or far; and whether your relationship is a close one or there is room you don't necessarily like; it is a Mother's Day. E...

Hope (Romans 5:3-5)

* This morning as I was sitting here attempting to write about hope I decided to check back on a past topic and found this from about a year ago. I apologize for the re-post of sorts, but it really hit home for me today! Scripture of the Day: Romans 5:3-5 and James 1:2-5 “We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to him. One of my favorite verses for a long time has been from Romans, Chapter 5: This passag...

Journey (Genesis 15:7)

Scripture of the day: Genesis 15:7 He [God] said to him [Abram], "I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it." Are you wondering what in the world I am going to do with that verse?! At first it may not seem pertinent to you...but it is! I am in the throws of another Beth Moore Bible Study and today a concept of that verse hit home. Take the verse and make it yours. "I am the LORD, who brought _____ (insert your name)  out of ______ to give you ______." God doesn't change...but he changes  things in the lives of people all the time! The wonderful thing is that he will never take you OUT of someplace without bringing you TO another place. The journey may be long and on paths you cannot see...but the journey always ends at a place that God had in mind for you. Sisters, let us not forget that! The neat thing about the fill in the blank above is that you can apply it to spiritual parts of your li...

Conversation with God (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Scripture of the Day: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray  continually , give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.   I have written on these verses before, but they were brought to the forefront of my mind last night at a bible study.  In those three little verses, basically God's will for every person is laid out. Be happy...joyous even. Pray to the Lord your God all the time. Be thankful every day of your life.  I will focus on the prayer topic because it is a hard one for me to do...and it shouldn't be! Friend, do you struggle as I do to keep an open dialogue with God throughout the day? Praying continually does not mean you need to be formally praying all the time, it means your mind is always in some kind of conversation with God. A good friend of mine pointed that out prayer is a conversation and for some reason that is beginning to work wonders in my mind!  When you go about your day, a little sho...

Submission. Eeks! (Ephesians 5:21-28)

Scripture of the Day: Ephesians 5:21-28 22  Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22  Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands  as you do to the Lord.   23  For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church,  his body, of which he is the Savior.   24  Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands  in everything. 25  Husbands, love your wives,  just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her   26  to make her holy, cleansing   her by the washing  with water through the word,   27  and to present her to himself  as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.   28  In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives  as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.   Ephesians 5, oh, how I used to balk at you! I remember in...

You have been good to me (Psalm 13:6)

Scripture of the Day: Psalm 13:6 I will sing the  Lord ’s  praise , for he has been good to me. This past weekend, I had a little mother's day miracle of my own! You could say it was chance, but I think it was the Lord's favor :)! My husband bought me a cross necklace for my first mother's day. I have lost it twice. The first time I found it under our bed when we moved the bed but the second time, I thought it was gone for good. Since last December I have been looking for this thing and was sure the vacuum got it long ago!  But on  Saturday, I decided to check the camera bag to make sure the charger was there and behold, the necklace was sitting on top of the cord! Note, we use the charger frequently, and  I can guarantee you it was not there last weekend!  I was so ecstatic, I almost started to cry. It had been gone so long, and it seemed to me a gift from God that it was returned so my response was a "thank you Jesus!" and a dance that got a strange...

And it came back to faith (Phil 1:6 and James 1:17)

Scripture of the Day: Philippians 1:6 and James 1:17 ... being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion  until the day of Christ Jesus. Every good and perfect gift is from above,  coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,  who does not change  like shifting shadows.   Here's a long introduction on the Scripture verses above! There are some things I am sure of in this life and one of those is that I am far from perfect! To embrace that if you will, I am venturing into the book No More Perfect Moms by Jill Savage. I am hoping to learn much about myself and the mother God created me to be! Before I even begin the book, I have signed up for some email devotions to help guide me along and the first two days listed the words you see at the top of the page. The amazing thing is I really needed to see those words - completely unrelated to motherhood! Here's to hoping they can help you out too, regardless of...

When in drought...(Jeremiah 17:7-8)

Scripture of the Day: Jeremiah 17:7-8 7  “But blessed  is the one who trusts  in the  Lord ,      whose confidence is in him. 8  They will be like a tree planted by the water      that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes;      its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought      and never fails to bear fruit.” The words are so positive! If you put your trust and confidence in the Lord (and really, there is no better thing to put your trust and confidence in than that), you will be blessed. And my friend, this blessedness is for always. Note how the passage ends "It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Sometimes in your walk with God you will be in what I will call a time of plenty. God is working through you, you feel extra close to him and can see his blessings and goodness just about everywhe...
