Scripture of the Day: Psalm 84:1-2, 10
1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.
O Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.
10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere
than a thousand elsewhere
This
is my week for flashbacks! In my pre-Christian days, I used to get what I would
call a “high” attending music concerts. Put thousands of people together, all
singing together and there is a kind of power there.
After I found Jesus, there
came a moment at concerts when I would have usually felt that “high,” and I was amazed to find that the feeling
during that moment was NOTHING close to how I felt when I was worshipping God,
or knew that He was close.
When
I began listening to Christian music and heard the song “Better is one day,”
(lyrics taken directly from the Psalm above) - I did a loud, mental, “YES!”
I
would rather spend one day in the courts of God than a thousand anywhere else!
I often think of those lyrics when I am in what I would call a drought with
God. I don’t feel Him every day – I don’t get that “high” every time I am in
worship. But when it happens, it is glorious – and even the memory of being
close to God holds me through. I would rather have a “moment” with the Lord one
day out of 365, than seek out some other form of contentment every other day of
the year.
Reader,
I hope you know the feeling I am talking about – and if you don’t, I pray you
do soon! It can happen at church, when you are worshipping with your fellow
members of the Body of Christ, it can happen listening to a song on the radio,
it can happen through prayer (whether you are alone, or with someone), and the
list could go on and on…but in whatever form it happens for you, rejoice in the
“betterness” of the happiness you get from the Lord!
Closing
Prayer:
Heavenly
Father, my soul knows how lovely your dwelling place is and it longs to be with
You! Thank you for giving us glimpses of what life will be like when we dwell in your courts. Help us to seek happiness in You, instead of through other things that may lead us down wrong paths. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
