Scripture of the Day: Genesis 4:7
"If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."
Those words were spoken to Cain, shortly before he murdered his brother. What powerful words that still apply to our lives today.
Reader, sin is crouching at our door - almost at every second. I feel like our culture encourages sin. I think this often comes in the form of the world being only about "you." Our current media feeds the desire to have what you want (mind you - not necessarily what you need), when you want it - and it doesn't discourage you from stepping on others to get it. Morals don't seem to really come into play, because there seems to be a mentality that we "deserve" everything. And THAT is a soap box I will jump on another day!
Sin wants to have you. It wants you to put aside what God has taught you and jump in, head over heels. So often, I fear, sin seems so appealing. It may appear to give us short term security, material happiness, perhaps even self-worth. But all of those things, when gained through sin, only serve to hurt us in the end.
It all comes down to doing what is right. I have talked several times on here how doing what is right means doing what God says is right - not popular culture. I think a lot of what God says is right can be summed up with what Jesus told his disciples shortly before he was taken from them, "Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." (John 13:34)
If we truly loved each other as Christ loved us, it would be a different world. Let's try it! Let's attempt to master that sin by doing what is right, through loving each other more.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, please help us master sin. We know that is not truly possible until we are with Christ, but through the Holy Spirit, we can have help while on this Earth. Please pour your Spirit on us and fill our hearts with love for our neighbor. The easiest way to do what is right is to do what Love tells us to do. Help us have that mindset! We ask these things in Jesus' name. Amen.
