Scripture of the Day – Matthew 7:7-8
7Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you
will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone
who asks, receives, he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be
opened.
On this day (Wed), I have been struggling to find a bible verse to
write about. And the reason that I’m struggling is because I don’t think I take
enough time to ask what God what He has planned to be talked about! My pastor reminds
us frequently that God is not addictive. He isn’t because it must be our choice
to seek after Him. Again, and again, and again. And voila – the verse above popped
into my head.
What makes me sad about that is that every day I do not necessarily
ask, seek, or knock. There are lots of days when I go through what I will call “spiritual
motions”, praying in the morning, and at night, but not really taking the time
to ask what God’s plans are for me through the day. On days when I don’t go
looking for God, I don’t see Him in everything…not because he isn’t there, but
because I am blind to seeing.
And on the flip side, what gives me hope is that, on this
day, I have become aware of my “lack” of seeking. Maybe this time it will stick
and every day I can take a little more time and devote it to the Lord. My
trusty bible (the NIV Life Application Study Bible) points out about Mathew
7:7-8: “Knowing God takes faith, focus, and follow-through, and Jesus assures
us that we will be rewarded. Don’t give up on your efforts to seek God.
Continue to ask him for more knowledge, patience, wisdom, love, and
understanding. He will give them to you.”
I don’t think I could say it better myself, so I will not
try! J
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, thank you for being so faithful! Even
though we are not constantly seeking, you are waiting for us to begin again.
What joy there is in knowing that when we do take the time to ask, you will
give and when we come looking, you will open the door to us! Change my heart,
Lord. Have it choose you before I wake up and before I go to sleep! Help me to
keep on asking, seeking, and knocking to find you and know you more. In your
Son’s name. Amen.
