Scripture of the Day: Genesis 17:15-19
15-16 God continued speaking to Abraham, “And Sarai your wife: Don’t call her Sarai any longer; call her Sarah. I’ll bless her—yes! I’ll give you a son by her! Oh, how I’ll bless her! Nations will come from her; kings of nations will come from her.”
17 Abraham fell flat on his face. And then he laughed, thinking, “Can a hundred-year-old man father a son? And can Sarah, at ninety years, have a baby?”
18 Recovering, Abraham said to God, “Oh, keep Ishmael alive and well before you!”
19 But God said, “That’s not what I mean. Your wife, Sarah, will have a baby, a son. Name him Isaac (Laughter). I’ll establish my covenant with him and his descendants, a covenant that lasts forever.
In case you need a refresher, the story above is about Abraham. Abraham had a son, Ishmael and he was envisioning (even asking) that God would spread the blessings He had promised through that line and was having trouble picturing his wife bearing a son and raising a child at their age. God had other plans.
There are times in life where we want God to move a blessing in our lives. We are walking down one path, feeling content and then figure out God wants us to move. Moving is hard and we don't always want to do it. We may try to bargain with God at that point and ask if we can stay on the road we are on because it is comfortable and we know the blessings we have experienced while on it. But God wants us to obey Him and follow where he leads us. Even when the place God tells us to go sounds crazy (i.e. being 90 or 100 years old and raising an infant).
It is times when God wants to "move the blessing" that we have to remember that God can see the big picture and we are only witness to a little blip on His radar screen. He can see it all and our job is to do our part and allow ourselves to be led - even when the place God wants to take us may not make sense. The new place may have more blessings than you can envision!
