New Year...New Teaching (Psalm 25:5)

Scripture of the Day: Psalm 25:5 Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my  hope  is in you all day long. Short and sweet post on this morning as I have slept in and feel quite wonderful and on the verge of possibility!  On this morning of New Year's Eve, I sit feeling hopeful and excited for what is to come! January 1st is my day to "start over" with God if you will. There will be a new bible in a year to begin, a new chance to commit to a Beth Moore Study, a new chance to pray more often, a new chance for me to be more open to what God has to teach! I start off the first few months of each year being pretty diligent and tend to be less disciplined the further we get into the year.  Maybe this year will be different and I will stick it out! I think that is my greatest hope/prayer for 2014. This year, I hope that you, too, will look to learn more about our God, in all forms -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If you haven't tried a d...

Glory to God (Luke 2:14)

Scripture of the Day: Luke 2:14 ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,      and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.’ Tonight I went to an excellent, Scripture driven, Christmas service. A church in town had an "Eve of Christmas Eve" service. This girl, who cannot make Christmas Eve or Day services anymore, was beyond stoked to attend a celebration of Christ's birth! The candlelight ceremony at the end while singing "Silent Night" was a glorious site to behold!  Jesus may not have been born on December 25th. We don't know the date. But it doesn't matter. Scripture gives us details of his birth and if believe those words, then regardless of the day, his birth deserves celebrating. When we celebrate Jesus' birth at Christmas, we are acknowledging that our Heavenly Father sent Jesus to earth. We are celebrating our God, made flesh. And when we celebrate, we are saying "Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to those ...

Peace (1 Corinthians 14:13)

Scripture of the Day: 1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. Taking a pause in my Christmas Carol posts for a life update. Here is a confession of me needing prayer...yet again!  I am in the midst of beginning treatment for Crohn's disease and just got the call yesterday that I probably need surgery for some ovarian cysts (I am going to attempt a second opinion). Regardless, 2013 (and what looks to be the beginning of 2014) have been, and look to stay, kind of rough! I came across the verse above last night and that is my prayer right now. I am needing that feeling of God being a God of peace...because right now I am just confused! Note...I'm not confused in my faith and God and I are all right, I just need a little bit of His peace. If you could pray that peace for me, that would be great! Another great verse is Romans 15:13,  May the  God   of  hope fill you with all joy and  peace  as you trust in him, so that...

Go! Tell it on the Mountain (Matthew 28:18-20)

Scripture of the Day: Matthew 28:18-20 18  Then Jesus came to them and said,  ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.   19  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,   20  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’ Lyrics of the Day: Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere. Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born! It could be because of its catchy beat, or more likely the fact that my son sings to those lyrics, but "Go tell it on the mountain" is becoming my favorite Christmas song this year!  I know most of you reading this have children. They may be grown, but think back to birthday celebrations when they were younger. Did you have a birthday week? Or even a birthday month? Did you count down to the big day? Through Christmas tun...

Thank God for Kids...Again! (Psalm 127:3)

Note this post was from last year...but slightly edited as my kiddo is another year older!  Scripture of the Day: Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Song of the Day: Thank God for Kids by the Oakridge Boys (lyrics below in case you have never heard this gem!!)                                                If it weren't for kids have you ever thought There wouldn't be no Santa Claus Or look what the stork just brought Thank God for kids. We'd all live in a quiet house Without Big Bird or a Mickey Mouse And Kool Aid on the couch Thank God for kids. Thank God for kids, there's magic for a while A special kind of sunshine in a smile. Do you ever stop to think or wonder why The nearest thing to heaven is a child? Daddy, how does th...

What Child is This (Luke 2:8-11)

Scripture of the Day: Luke 2: 8-11 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields near by, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Song lyric: What Child is this? What child is this, who, laid to rest, On Mary's lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, While shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King... Can you imagine for a second, being those shepherds? Terrified by the glory of the Lord, only to hear the best news in the universe. The Savior, who can bring joy to all the people, was born. This child is Christ the King. Friends, stay in the shepherds shoes. Would you have believed? Would you have run to Bethlehem to see fo...

Unto us a Child is Given (Isaiah 9:6)

Scripture of the Day: Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born,      to us a son is given,      and the government  will be on his shoulders. And he will be called      Wonderful Counselor,  Mighty God,      Everlasting  Father,  Prince of Peace Last December I my blog focused on various Christmas songs and I am going to attempt the same thing this year! The verse above is word for word on our Veggie Tales Christmas CD in a song called, "For unto us a child is born," and inevitably gets stuck in my head!  I love that between 700 and 800 years before Christ was born those words were written! I also love what those words imply about our Savior. There isn't anything condescending or bad there, instead all of the words ring out with hope and with comfort. Especially during this Christmas I need to focus on the fact that this child who was given to us all needs to be my focus. I am a ...
