Scripture of the Day: Luke 2: 8-11
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields near by, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

Song lyric: What Child is this?
What child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King...
What child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King...
Can you imagine for a second, being those shepherds? Terrified by the glory of the Lord, only to hear the best news in the universe. The Savior, who can bring joy to all the people, was born. This child is Christ the King. Friends, stay in the shepherds shoes. Would you have believed? Would you have run to Bethlehem to see for yourself? Would you have fallen on your news in thanks?
Whatever you imagined response, do it today! Granted, getting to Bethlehem is not really a possibility, but you can read the Scriptures to learn what God wants us to know about His Son. Getting on your knees in thanks however is a simple task. Even if your response would have been fear and you feel that now out of reverence, that is fine! Proverbs tells us: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (9:10)
But however you feel, take time to really think about who that child was when you hear this song during the Christmas season. He grew up to save the world - yourself included.
