Scripture of the Day: Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
Last December I my blog focused on various Christmas songs and I am going to attempt the same thing this year! The verse above is word for word on our Veggie Tales Christmas CD in a song called, "For unto us a child is born," and inevitably gets stuck in my head!
I love that between 700 and 800 years before Christ was born those words were written! I also love what those words imply about our Savior. There isn't anything condescending or bad there, instead all of the words ring out with hope and with comfort.
Especially during this Christmas I need to focus on the fact that this child who was given to us all needs to be my focus. I am a present buyer. I like to buy things for other people but this year 1) I don't want my son to get so many gifts that he loses sight of the real meaning of Christmas 2) we cannot financially support all the gifts I would like to buy and 3) my two "surprise gifts" for my hubby and my spouse have been found out (much to my chagrin). This one is actually the hardest for me - I could envision the look of surprise on the faces of my Nathan's when they got their Christmas gift(s) and now they already know :(. But I feel like God is saying, "Christmas isn't about the gifts - make them excited about ME!" So that is my new mission!
We will celebrate our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace. Who is sweeter than chocolate (Those are the lyrics in a song my son is singing at church and he asked me the other day, "Mom, did you know God is sweeter than chocolate?" - too cute!), and our all in all. Walk with me as we celebrate Jesus through song this season!
