Instead of having multiple verses for you today...I chose none and would instead just encourage you to flip through your New Testament and see who wrote the various books...and who they were written for.
Our church sermon a couple of Sunday's ago has stuck around in my head and heart. The topic was discipleship of sorts and the point was brought about that in your life you should always have three people: a Paul, a Silas, and a Timothy. These people will rotate over time.
Let's clarify in case that doesn't make any sense. Considering how many books in the New Testament are attributed to Paul, we can consider him a teacher and a mentor to many. If you read the beginning verses of his books, you will see that some are written with Silas (peer) and some with Timothy (student and viewed by Paul as a son in Christ).
You should always have a mentor to help guide you, a peer with whom you can relate and help each other grow, and someone you are teaching. Do you have those people in your life? If the answer is no, I would venture to say that there is no time like the present to get started.
After this sermon, I literally went up to someone at church and asked her if she would be my Paul. Granted, without the context of the Paul/Silas/Timothy equation, that could be seen as strange! But clarify. I have a feeling there is someone who would love to teach you, guide you, and hold you accountable. You just have to ask!
There are probably also people in your life who you could teach. People you can help guide and people you can hold accountable. At this stage in my life, it seems children fit into this category, but it doesn't have to be them! We can all teach anyone who is willing to learn...and sometimes even those who are not willing.
There should also be people in your life you trust who are on the same walk as you. Hopefully! Paul trusted Silas enough to dictate letters...which ended up in the Bible! Who do you trust to listen to what you say?
I wish I could leave you with the slide from our sermon...but the point seems simple enough. Who is your Paul? Who is your Silas? Who is your Timothy? If you can't name them - pray about it and they will come to you. Of that I am certain! :)
