Wash my Feet

This post is long in coming...the idea was posed through Nicky Gumbel and the alpha series, AND I'm going to ask you to read a lot of Scripture first! Please take the time to read the following Scripture. My goodness, have you ever seen such a high maintenance post?! :) I give you John 13:6-17

He [Jesus] came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
“Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” 11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
I've read this through my bible reads several times. And never has it clicked. As I'm reading I'm not really understanding why Peter is told that if his feet aren't washed he has no part of Jesus; BUT it is only his feet that must be washed. What?!
And then the lovely Nicky Gumbel explained it like this: Once we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior; our bodies ARE clean. Our soul is saved; our place is with the Lord. But until we die, we live in the world. It gets on our feet. We need to wash it off every once and a while, or it will take over. The light bulb went on!
The world gets us dirty. It tries to determine what we deem as "good" or "bad," it wants to impose value. It honestly wants to impose sin on our lives. If we don't take the time to wash our feet; and most importantly, wash the feet of others; that world yuck is going to build up until it is darn near impossible to wash off.
We need to hold each other accountable. Remind each other of the importance of Jesus Christ and God's word. We need to focus on cleaning each other's feet so that we can take part in the Kingdom some day.
I think we can even tell when other people are in need of this "washing." If you notice people you love starting to walk down the wrong path, living a little more in the WORLD and a little less in the WORD, talk to them about it. Remind them of what's important. Wash their feet :) And then, for the love of pete, don't forget about them, but hold them accountable! Don't wash their feet and then walk away for two years. Shoot them a text message every day if you need to. After you wash their feet, you need to hold their hands!
I don't think people are always aware themselves, when they need their feet washed. At the point we most need it, the world is so important to us that we can't see we need Jesus. So it is at this point, when I'm NOT overtaken with the world that I will ask YOU to hold me accountable. If I start acting different, if you see me lose sight of my walk with the Lord, I am BEGGING you to wash my feet. Bring me back. Hold ME accountable to what you know I value. Please?!

I love you Lord (Psalm 100:2)

Scripture of the Day: Psalm 100:2  Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Starting last fall, my husband began singing the song "I Love you Lord," to our kiddo before he went to bed, as a lullaby of sorts. The lyrics are simple: I love you Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you, oh my soul rejoice! Take joy, my King, in what you hear, may it be a sweet, sweet, sound in your ear. It has since become a very popular song in our house! We sing it before nap time, bed time, and I hum it when sometimes when our little guy is upset or over tired. I love singing it slow and asking him to sing with me – at this point he knows most of the words and there is really nothing sweeter than hearing that little voice sing “I yuv you yord,”  (no “r’s” yet you see)! The song has also worked it's way into my personal worship of the Lord. The words are meant for Him to hear and I think he loves to hear them sung! I find that singing that j...

What is Your Lie?

By now, you should know I like songs. I like Christian songs because their words don't put any "yuck" in my head and I don't have to worry about what little ears are taking in when they are on! Some touch me deep and here are the lyrics to part of a new favorite: Reckless Love by Cory Asbury There's no shadow you won't light up, Mountain you won't climb up Coming after me... There's no wall you won't kick down, Lie you won't tear down, Coming after me... Friends. Focus on that last point: There's no lie God won't tear down. What is your lie? What lie, or even lies, do you believe about yourself? What lies run over and over in your head until they don't feel like lies anymore? What hurts have you told yourself you deserve? What unkindness have you accepted as your due? What actions have you justified for others? What fault have you accepted that really isn't yours? What forgiveness have you felt unworthy of? I'm...

From the mouth's of babes

I'm writing this more for prosperity's sake and because I need to try and wrap my head around a conversation I just had with my seven year old. Mandisa's song "Bleed the Same" was playing in the car...my kiddo asks me what she is actually saying because he hears "We all be the same." I explained how it meant that regardless of skin color, or lots of other things really, we all bleed the same. On the inside, we are all the same. And then the zinger. He says, "We all look the same inside. Except our hearts." "Oh really?" Says I. "Yes," says he "because of sin. I'm talking on a spiritual level." AAAHHHHH!!! Our hearts all look different because of sin in the my mind of my baby. And I bet you that in the eyes of God, who can see the heart in a different light and who judges it's motivations, our hearts all DO look different. When I think of a heart full of sin, I think of black and decay instead o...
