Scripture of the Day: Jeremiah 17:7-8
7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
Part of me is leery to tell you where today's verses come from, because with the answer comes a glimpse into one of the true loves of my life. Ready? Football! I love football...and I love Tim Tebow! (Please note I do bleed green and gold and will support my Green Bay Packers through thick and thin.) Tim I follow, regardless of the team he plays for, because his main team is the Body of Christ! His posts are usually simple - no words, just a Scripture passage to look up. Yesterday, for the first football Sunday of the season, it was the verses above. I could get on my soap box for a while and tell you how amazing I think it is that God is using someone in the NFL to promote His word, but I will refrain - at least for now!

The words are so positive! If you put your trust and confidence in the Lord (and really, there is no better thing to put your trust and confidence in than that), you will be blessed. And my friend, this blessedness is for always. Note how the passage ends "It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
Sometimes in your walk with God you will be in what I will call a time of plenty. God is working through you, you feel extra close to him and can see his blessings and goodness just about everywhere you turn. But sometimes you may feel like you and God are in a "drought" of sorts. God's blessings are still there, but you may not be able to see them so clearly.
Are you ready for the good news? In those times of drought, if you keep your trust and confidence in God, you NEVER FAIL to bear fruit. You may not be able to see God in everything, but you keep living your life like you can. You keep bearing fruit in your example to others, in your prayer life, and in your relationship with God because you know that He has not left you.
How do you know he has not left you? Because the verses above do not say "IF there is a drought," they say, "It has no worries in a year of drought." the verses tell you there will be times of drought. Because we know those times are coming we can prepare for them and not feel alone when they happen. And that reasoning circles back to the beginning of our passage today - we know we are not alone because we are blessed by having put our trust and confidence in the Lord! Can I get an amen? :)
I sincerely hope that my circular reasoning has brought a smile to your face, and a "thank you" to your lips - and not led you down a path of confusion. If it has, please let me know and I would be happy to delve deeper.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, thank you for blessing those who put their trust and confidence in you! Please help us fill up on Your word in times of plenty so that we are prepared for the times of drought that you have told us are coming. The times of drought are not a punishment, they are a time when we still bear Your fruit - we just have to remember that! Thank you as always for loving enough to never leave us. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
