Scripture of the Day: 1 Samuel 16:7
For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.
I am discovering of late that when it comes to certain aspects of my life, especially my health habits, I need a heart change. An attitude change won't work. A lifestyle change won't work. I need to start with a heart change so that the rest will follow. Jill Savage, author of No More Perfect Moms states, "Our hearts determine our priorities, obedience, faithfulness, and loyalty." How true that is!
Have you ever tried to follow through with a decision just by changing how you thought or what you did? I go through spurts when I eat healthy for a few days or attempt to exercise. When I do this it is because I mentally decide I need to lead a healthier lifestyle. What doesn't change is my heart so when I attempt this "fad" of sorts, I inevitably fail.
What I need sounds simple...for God to change my heart! I have always had trouble seeing the way I treat my body as a form of stewardship...but that is what it is! As 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 states, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." When my heart comes around to living that verse, a healthier lifestyle will follow.
Will you pray that with me?
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, please give us a heart change today. Help us become healthier people. Not because we would like to be model thin or fit into society's idea of perfection, but because we want glorify you by taking care of ourselves, and of course, be around to see our children grow up! Our bodies are not really are bodies - you have entrusted them to us for just a little while. And the healthier we are, the longer that "little while" may last. Use the Holy Spirit within us to first change our hearts so that our attitudes and actions may follow. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
