Scripture of the Day: Matthew 18:2-4
2 Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. 3 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. 4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Today I was at the park with my son and a little girl whom I watch a few days during the week. I was at the point where I was ready to leave, when what should they see but a butterfly. Have you seen the face of pure joy? I did today. It was those two children trying to catch a butterfly. Their smiles were innocent and their running was free. It was one of those moments that made me wonder how some people question the existence of God.
And then later this afternoon I got some more not-so-good health news which put me in a bit of a slump. Thankfully it didn't last very long! Because as I sat pondering God, in all His infinite wisdom, I realized that the God who showed those two little children a butterfly today was the same God who will take care of me and show me my path.
There are some truths about God that I hope you know and believe. God doesn't change. Ever. God's love for you is unconditional. Really.
I think children, in their humbleness, get to see more of God than we typically do as adults. They are more open to what they see and feel. They don't run everything through filters. They don't question everything. When they see true beauty they run to it with open arms. When bad things happen they cry and seek physical comfort in the form of a hug or a kiss, and then they get over it.
We, as adults can take a lesson from that! Your heavenly Father loves you. When you are hurting or scared or confused, go to Him for a big hug. That hug can come in the form of Scripture, prayer, or time with a friend. Accept that hug as the comfort you need and trust Him enough to move on! Children don't spend time pondering the "what-ifs". They see what is in front of them and that is enough.
Are you ready to do that in your own life? Become like little children so that we can truly enjoy eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven? I think if we can learn to view and process the world like children, we will see God's presence down here on earth much more than we are used to!
