My mothers

Scripture of the Day: Luke 12:34

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be.

I'd like to insert a word there; so it reads: "Family, where your treasure is, there your heart will be." Yesterday was Mother's Day and I couldn't write a FaceBook post fitting to the mothers in my life! Here is a much lengthier version :)

There are so many. There is Trish, my mother-mother, who took care of me in my sickest times and demonstrated the importance of staying strong when your child is weak. A lesson I appreciate more now as a mother myself with a son who has had hospital stays! She will fight for what is right, remain loyal to the end and has a strong desire to help those who need a little (or a lot) of accounting help. It has been a blessing to see her in her work element this last year.! My verse for her because of my health issues and then hers is Joshua 1:9, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Courage (thanks to Days of our Lives with Patch and Kayla!!), has always been our word when times get tough.

Next comes Ann, who up until yesterday, I wasn't sure how to classify! "Ex-step mom" seemed so harsh; but on the phone she made a comment about me being in her "forever family." Yes! So, Ann is in my forever family. She has a gift of being affirming and I am so thankful for her words of encouragement and the steadfastness of her love. Through the experiences of her life, I pray she knows the power of hope (Romans 5:3-5): "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."

Both Ann and my mom have gone through near-life-ending experiences. And both have come out fighting - grateful for everyday and with a knowledge that we don't all have - that God wants them here to fulfill a purpose that only He knows. Life isn't always easy for either of them; but they fight. And my prayer for them is that through the fight, they grow closer to Him and find Rest in the only place it can come - from Him!

Next we have Marian. Yet another blessing (and she's not even the last!). There are horror stories of mother-in-law / daughter-in-law relationships. I don't have one of those! I have a mother-in-law who welcomed me into her heart from the first and has never made me feel like anything other than another child. Her heart is big enough to love all the people she calls family - old and new! Her life verse is Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." And what amazing plans those are and will be.

And then we have mother-in-law number two: Becky. The Ritter's adopted my husband into their family in Christ and in love long before me. But she too, had enough room to welcome in a daughter-in law (and a grandson)! The whole family, but Becky in particular, demonstrate how big God's love is. I think she lives out the Law, as Jesus explained in Matthew 22:36-39:“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself." Becky has much love for everyone; and with much love comes the vulnerability of getting hurt. I know I am not alone in that all of her family would like to keep her protected from any hurt she may experience. She also has a gift of being affirming and sending words of encouragement when they are need most.

Mother's - I am thankful for each of you. For how you teach me and how you love me! I am beyond blessed to have you all! I love you :)

I love you Lord (Psalm 100:2)

Scripture of the Day: Psalm 100:2  Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Starting last fall, my husband began singing the song "I Love you Lord," to our kiddo before he went to bed, as a lullaby of sorts. The lyrics are simple: I love you Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you, oh my soul rejoice! Take joy, my King, in what you hear, may it be a sweet, sweet, sound in your ear. It has since become a very popular song in our house! We sing it before nap time, bed time, and I hum it when sometimes when our little guy is upset or over tired. I love singing it slow and asking him to sing with me – at this point he knows most of the words and there is really nothing sweeter than hearing that little voice sing “I yuv you yord,”  (no “r’s” yet you see)! The song has also worked it's way into my personal worship of the Lord. The words are meant for Him to hear and I think he loves to hear them sung! I find that singing that j...

What is Your Lie?

By now, you should know I like songs. I like Christian songs because their words don't put any "yuck" in my head and I don't have to worry about what little ears are taking in when they are on! Some touch me deep and here are the lyrics to part of a new favorite: Reckless Love by Cory Asbury There's no shadow you won't light up, Mountain you won't climb up Coming after me... There's no wall you won't kick down, Lie you won't tear down, Coming after me... Friends. Focus on that last point: There's no lie God won't tear down. What is your lie? What lie, or even lies, do you believe about yourself? What lies run over and over in your head until they don't feel like lies anymore? What hurts have you told yourself you deserve? What unkindness have you accepted as your due? What actions have you justified for others? What fault have you accepted that really isn't yours? What forgiveness have you felt unworthy of? I'm...

From the mouth's of babes

I'm writing this more for prosperity's sake and because I need to try and wrap my head around a conversation I just had with my seven year old. Mandisa's song "Bleed the Same" was playing in the car...my kiddo asks me what she is actually saying because he hears "We all be the same." I explained how it meant that regardless of skin color, or lots of other things really, we all bleed the same. On the inside, we are all the same. And then the zinger. He says, "We all look the same inside. Except our hearts." "Oh really?" Says I. "Yes," says he "because of sin. I'm talking on a spiritual level." AAAHHHHH!!! Our hearts all look different because of sin in the my mind of my baby. And I bet you that in the eyes of God, who can see the heart in a different light and who judges it's motivations, our hearts all DO look different. When I think of a heart full of sin, I think of black and decay instead o...
