Scripture of the Day: Psalm 139:13-16
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
I love driving. My
brain wanders and I often have time to think about lots of things that would
otherwise go unnoticed! To take you down the path of my scattered thoughts
(scary, I know!), please read on.
On our way home
from our vacation this past week, my son and I were listening to various Veggie
Tale’s CDs in the car and the songs themselves got me thinking about one of the
closing lines to most (if not all) of the Veggie Tale’s shows: “God made you
special and He loves you very much.” My next thought went to a Mercy Me concert
I attended a couple of years ago in which the lead singer told the crowd that
he tells his children they are perfect every day, because they ARE perfect – and
they are exactly the people God created them to be.
Thought process
continued…I then began thinking about how often we tell our children that we
love them and was pondering the “perfectness” in my son. I remember telling him
that he was perfect often as a baby, but I don’t do it anymore – and that
saddens me!
Already, I fear
the world is getting to my communication with him and there is a little less love
portrayed and a little bit of innocence lost. But the word of God cheered me
up! I think one of the reasons we should praise our children is because of the
verses above. Because we know that WE are fearfully and wonderfully made, we
know that our children are made in the same way. God created our inmost being
and he created theirs. Just as our days have been ordained, so have those of
our children. And of possibly the most positive message in all of the words
above – God’s works are wonderful. Our children are wonderful – you may even
say they are perfect (not meaning they do everything right, but I think very
young children cannot help but do everything God has planned for them – and so
they are going forth in their lives exactly as their Creator envisioned).
Reader, I pray
that you find your children perfect, in some way. Remember, you did not create
them – that job went to someone who knows far more than we can ever dream to
know! Your children were trusted to you because you are the best parent
possible for them. Tell your children you love them. You can even tell them
that they are perfect…they may be surprised and disbelieving, but tell them why
they are perfect. Because God made them so.
Closing prayer:
Heavenly Father
God, thank you for making each of us “special.” We are your wonderful works and
we praise you for that! The world may try and beat us down, but it is You who
have created us and it is You who has our life plan already designed. Please
help us not look at our lives as a complete picture, but to take it day by day.
Help us to see the perfectness in our children – help us to love them as You
have loved us. In your Son’s awesome name. Amen.
