Note: This week will continue my "Christmas in July" theme. My posts have been written following the weekly advent theme of hope, peace, joy, and love (in no particular order here). Last week's posts were on peace and joy, this week's will focus on hope and love.
Scripture of the Day: Isaiah 42:1-4
1 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
2 He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear his voice in the streets.
3 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he leads justice to victory.
4 In his name the nations will put their hope.”
the one I love, in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
2 He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear his voice in the streets.
3 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he leads justice to victory.
4 In his name the nations will put their hope.”
I love the Scripture above because Isaiah wrote those verses about
Jesus, long before he was on this Earth. He wrote them out of hope about who
Jesus would be. Put yourself in his shoes (and time) for a second. Take the
time to hope for the Messiah, who is not yet to come. Hope for someone to whom
the nations will depend on, who the Lord loves, who has the Lord’s Spirit and
who brings peace. Hope for someone who leads justice to victory. Hope in the anticipation of our Savior being
born.
Come back to the present time and rejoice because in your world. Jesus
Christ was born. He lived and he died
– for you! Praise God because you do not have to wait as Isaiah waited!
I pray during this “Christmas in July,” you have a renewal of
hope. Life can get us down and there are times we may forget all that God
promised and all that Jesus fulfilled. Jesus being born and the life that
followed has allowed for the forgiveness of your sins – and given you new
reason to hope.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for letting us know who Jesus would be and what he would do long before he was on this earth. Thank you for encouraging us to put our hope in him from the beginning. Please help us always to hope in Jesus Christ, for our present and our future. It is in His name I pray, Amen.
