Scripture of the Day: 2 Corinthians 4:16-17
16 Therefore we do not lose
heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are
being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an
eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
Every once and a while, we need a different
perspective – “God perspective,” if you will. When I have a bad day, it tends
to consume me. Instead of taking it as one bad day that will end, I look at
everything that happens on that day and in my head I take it down a path to a
horrible ending sometime in the future. And then I bring everyone down with me :(. In my house, as in lots
of others I’m sure, it really is, “If momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!”
And then I read the Scripture above and what
happens to me…?! The bad days don’t seem so bad in retrospect. Inwardly we are
being renewed day by day! I think we know this is true – it is an example of
why we should not go to bed mad – because when we wake up the next morning,
yesterday’s troubles are a little more hazy. They are hazy because those days
are gone! The momentary troubles of today, or even tomorrow, are worth it
because someday we will have a glory that lasts forever and is better than our
best day on earth could possibly be.
I would have much less regrets for words spoken if
only I could look at each bad day as it is happening and think, “Hey, tomorrow
this day will be only something that happened yesterday. Tomorrow I will be renewed.
Today is a momentary glitch.” The only
way that will happen is if we pray about it – so here goes!
Prayer: (not closing prayer because it’s long
winded!)
Heavenly Father God, please help me not to lose
heart on the bad days. Help me not view each day as an end in and of itself –
but help me look forward to tomorrow. Please help my head remember what my
heart already knows – that inwardly I am being renewed day by day. Your glory
is eternal and is waiting for me and any momentary troubles I have here are
just that, momentary troubles! God, help me keep perspective and not lose sight
of the hope that I am always more aware of on the good days. Please help me
keep Your promises at the forefront of my mind and ignore the little blips on
the radar of my daily life that interfere. I pray these things in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
