God's Direction (Isaiah 48:17)

Scripture of the Day:

"I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go."

Have you ever had times in your life where you really wanted something, or you have felt that you should do something, but God just isn't working with you on it? I remember clearly the first real conversation I had with my now husband-prior to even dating. Five years ago I was feeling like I should move back to Wisconsin (my home state), but it wasn't lining up and my gut was not sure it was the right thing to do. And then came his genius suggestion, "Stay until God tells you to go." WOAH! Why hadn't I thought of that?? :) It was so easy. It helped relieve my stress and let me enjoy where I was (even though I didn't know at that time where the future would lead).

Remember my post from last week, about the heart changing moment to where I am happy staying home with my little man? I am still happy doing that, but the job thing is still on my mind. Part of me would love to find a part time job that would allow me to do something extra, and the financial side would be nice too! But I realized yesterday I feel about it the exact same way I did about that move to Wisconsin. I don't think God is really pointing me in that direction...I, myself, was going down that path. God hasn't told me to add something else to my plate.

Then I came across that Scripture last night and went, "Doh! - God isn't directing me to a job." Like my hubby told me years ago, I need to stay in the situation I am in until God tells me to move on. After all, He is the one who teaches us what is best for us who directs us in the way we should go. If you would like some pointers on what direction that is, my pastor always teaches four ways to help find God's will for your life:

  • Pray
  • Read the bible
  • Talk to your spiritual mentors (those you trust for your accountability)
  • Circumstances (note that circumstances are last because they are really the most unimportant, but that isn't how we typically live our lives...usually we rule them by circumstance)
Note: If the first three things point to no, but the circumstances line up - Don't do it!!

I have found in my life that when I let it line up with God's direction, things tend to run more smoothly - and
my stress level goes down dramatically! Reader, life isn't always easy when your desires don't line up with God's plan for your life, but it is what is best in the long run! Seek out the four things above and it will be made easier still.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father God, please help my desires align with your will for my life. It isn't always easier to like where You are wanting me to go, but as You have said, you teach us what is best and you direct us where we should go! Thank you for that guidance. Please help me remember to seek Your direction instead of my own. Help me remember to pray about things, read your word and talk to those in my life before I jump the gun of circumstance and begin down a path that is not in your plans. Thank you for correcting me in this current situation and thank you in advance for doing it again in the future! I know with my will, I will seek other things that are not in you plan. Thank you for loving me anyway. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

I love you Lord (Psalm 100:2)

Scripture of the Day: Psalm 100:2  Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Starting last fall, my husband began singing the song "I Love you Lord," to our kiddo before he went to bed, as a lullaby of sorts. The lyrics are simple: I love you Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you, oh my soul rejoice! Take joy, my King, in what you hear, may it be a sweet, sweet, sound in your ear. It has since become a very popular song in our house! We sing it before nap time, bed time, and I hum it when sometimes when our little guy is upset or over tired. I love singing it slow and asking him to sing with me – at this point he knows most of the words and there is really nothing sweeter than hearing that little voice sing “I yuv you yord,”  (no “r’s” yet you see)! The song has also worked it's way into my personal worship of the Lord. The words are meant for Him to hear and I think he loves to hear them sung! I find that singing that j...

What is Your Lie?

By now, you should know I like songs. I like Christian songs because their words don't put any "yuck" in my head and I don't have to worry about what little ears are taking in when they are on! Some touch me deep and here are the lyrics to part of a new favorite: Reckless Love by Cory Asbury There's no shadow you won't light up, Mountain you won't climb up Coming after me... There's no wall you won't kick down, Lie you won't tear down, Coming after me... Friends. Focus on that last point: There's no lie God won't tear down. What is your lie? What lie, or even lies, do you believe about yourself? What lies run over and over in your head until they don't feel like lies anymore? What hurts have you told yourself you deserve? What unkindness have you accepted as your due? What actions have you justified for others? What fault have you accepted that really isn't yours? What forgiveness have you felt unworthy of? I'm...

From the mouth's of babes

I'm writing this more for prosperity's sake and because I need to try and wrap my head around a conversation I just had with my seven year old. Mandisa's song "Bleed the Same" was playing in the car...my kiddo asks me what she is actually saying because he hears "We all be the same." I explained how it meant that regardless of skin color, or lots of other things really, we all bleed the same. On the inside, we are all the same. And then the zinger. He says, "We all look the same inside. Except our hearts." "Oh really?" Says I. "Yes," says he "because of sin. I'm talking on a spiritual level." AAAHHHHH!!! Our hearts all look different because of sin in the my mind of my baby. And I bet you that in the eyes of God, who can see the heart in a different light and who judges it's motivations, our hearts all DO look different. When I think of a heart full of sin, I think of black and decay instead o...
