Scripture of the Day: Psalm 25:6-7
Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O lord.
When I think of negative stereotypes of women, words like "petty," and "holding a grudge," come to mind. When we are wronged, it is easy to hold on to that memory and bring it up to that person again and again. We don't often like to let go of things. Hearts tend to keep track of wrongs and new hurts today bring back the old hurts from yesterday. Instead of remembering things in love, I think we do the opposite and hold on to remembering all the bad.
God doesn't want that to be how we live. Instead of holding on to wrongs, hold on to rights. When people do things that hurt you (and they will), according to your love - remember them. Just as we appreciate God's great mercy, love and goodness, we must demonstrate those characteristics to those around us. Don't remember the sins of the people in your lives, instead, remember God's love for you and pay back anything you receive (good or bad) in kindness.
It is hard to always "remember the love" because the people we know may not always be showing us love. It doesn't matter. The Scripture above doesn't say "according to THEIR love" - meaning other people...but according to "YOUR love." Not everyone has to love you...but you need to love everyone. If we ask God to look past all the things we have done (read that again - ALL) and expect him to only look at us and remember love (which he does, because of the death of Jesus Christ), we have no choice but to look at others in love.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, David's words are still applicable today. Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O lord. Please help us to apply that prayer in different context in our own lives - help us remember people according to our love instead of any negative feeling that may be overriding in our lives at the time. We love you and in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
