Scripture of the Day: Genesis 2:5-7
5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, 6 and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground— 7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
How man came to be is something that I don't often think of. We exist. God knew about every hair on our heads and every thought in them as well, long before we were here, so I seldom take time to think about how humans came to be on this earth.
We are not here by happenstance. We were fearfully and wonderfully made out of the dust from the ground, into human form. Without God breathing the breath of life into Adam's nostrils, not a single person would be here.
I think I usually take the creation of man for granted. But for some reason today the words hit me in a new way. Not only does God love man, he MADE man. He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Give of Life. Back when there was nothing, and no one, God made everything and everyone.
Let us take some time today to thank him for that first breath of life. You came into this world and you breathed. When you accepted Christ as your Savior, you got what I think of as a second breath of life. Jesus is like a shot of oxygen to your heart that sustains you just as much as the air does. Sometimes even more so. When you think about it all, it is truly amazing!
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, thank you for creating Adam and thank you for creating us. No matter the state of the world, you breathed breath into us all. Please help us remember where we came from and live our lives in ways that please, and praise, you. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.
