Scripture of the Day: 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Ahh parenting! We are in a trying time with that these days. It seems the older my son gets, the more defiant he becomes and darn it - he knows more words every day so the defiance seems to grow with them! This week we have discovered a secret. In the midst of tantrums the trick to calming us all down is singing "Amazing Grace." It helps me be less angry and seems to help bring the little man back down to a rational train of thought. It helps me focus on God and see past the situation.
I think the words of that song calm me down because just as God granted me glorious grace when I didn't deserve it (and still does so every day) my husband and I need to grant our son grace as well. Not so much grace that he finds ways to evade all trouble because "all is forgiven", but enough grace that we can become rational ourselves and make sure that the punishment "fits the crime" if you will.
The only way we can provide this grace and comfort to our son is through letting God comfort us first. When we are in trouble, we need to find out comfort button with the Lord. For us, it is song. For you it may be prayer, a nature walk, a book, or a conversation. But I think the point is for you to LET God comfort you so that you can turn around and comfort others. We all have to be open to intervention! If we don't seek that first, our reactions in anger or frustration may do more harm than good. That, my friends, is not our ideal outcome!
